I was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Diana and Ed Sunquist. My brothers, Ken and Tim, completed our nomadic family. Due to my father's pipeline construction work, we lived in Gretna, Man., McLeod Lake, BC, Galveston, Texas, North Bay, ON, Kapuskasing, ON, Grenfell, SK, and finally Regina, SK. It was a great life and instilled in us the concept of "family first always".
My brothers and I lived in the world of figure skating while we were young. I was a skater, a competitor, a judge, a coach. I was a gold medalist in figures, free skating, dance and free dance, and at the age of 15, the youngest person in Saskatchewan to ever pass all these tests. I loved test skating but disliked competing. I loved coaching but judging was not my thing. Can't do it all can you!
Both my parents worked hard to give us a good life and they set examples for us of honesty, reliability, hard work, and most importantly, love of family.
I have been fortunate to have 3 wonderful children who have always been my proudest achievements. Jame came on the scene first in 1972 with his strength of spirit, his loyalty, his amazing sense of humour. Next came Chris in 1975 with his love, his compassion, and his adventurous spirit. Finally, in 1982, cam Jill with her outgoing nature, her love of family (and animals) and a wonderful sense of right and wrong. I have loved these kids from the bottom of my heart and they have always been front and centre in my life.
I have also been blessed with wonderful grandchildren. Conner as the firstborn, loves hockey, golf, actually, any sport involving a ball or a puck. He has such a sweet personality! Next came Olivia, carrying on my family's tradition of involvement in the world of figure skating and doing it with awesome style and showmanship. She also is a gifted performer with a love of drama. Next came Molly, and although she is very young as I write this, I know she has the basic personality to be anything she wants to be - swimmer, communication expert, and anything to do with animals are 3 that jump to mind immediately. At last, came Kate. Younger sister of Molly. It was fantastic that Kate was born on my birthday April 15th. This will always be a treasure to me celebrating Kate's and my birthday on the same day. She is a strong-willed and independent little girl. I have also had the pleasure of 2 "step" granddaughters who are terrific. JAci, the fun and outgoing, hard-working strong person and Elizabeth, very independent as a social worker as well as a world explorer.
And finally, I come to Ron. What can I say about my rock, my friend, my husband. We have had a wonderful life. We met and married in Regina, blending 2 families and then giving birth to Jill. Along with Ron came his two sons Scott and Trent. This filled out our blended family. We decided that if we ever had the opportunity to come to the Victoria area, we would jump at the chance. The opportunity came, so we did too!
We first moved to Gordon Head and then, because we had a business in Sidney, We moved out to this area. It gave us a good life and helped me come out of my shell and get involved in community activities. I met so many good people who became friends and, as I write this, I think fondly of so many who have been happy parts of my life.
THANK YOU ALL FOR GIVING ME YOUR LOVE, YOUR FRIENDSHIP, AND YOUR SUPPORT. IT HAS TRULY BEEN A WONDERFUL LIFE.
