KOBIERSKI, Ruth Amelia (nee Newbold) 1918 - 2016 Ruth was born in Borden, Saskatchewan in 1918 and died peacefully on 14 June, 2016 in Victoria, BC. She lived 98 wonderful years and was a pillar and joy to her husband Mike (predeceased), son Bob (Karen), daughters Lynn and Mary Lou (Brad), grandchildren Trevor, Michael, Marianne, Amy, Tess and Patrick and great-grandchildren Hunter, Elinor and Ryan. She is also survived by her brother John (102) and sister Olive (92), in-laws Betty Ann (Graeme), Laurie (Wayne) and many nieces and nephews. Ruth joined the RCAF during the war as a Nursing Sister and met Flying Officer Mike Kobierski in Winnipeg. After war service for both, they married and Ruth became a full time mother and homemaker. Her interests included bridge, golf, curling, needle work and lawn bowling. She was an "Angel mother", making over 1000 crocheted angels for the Abbotsford Hospice society and throughout her life was an avid sports fan. Ruth was featured in the Times Colonist as a Canuck Super Fan in 2011. Ruth moved into Amica at Beechwood after Mike died then to the Lodge at Broadmead where she again continued her crafting, especially making painted aprons for her extended family. She was known to the staff as a person who always was there to assist her fellow residents (once a nurse, always a nurse!) and one who loved to dance. The family is grateful for her companions Colette and Jeanne, her many friends, caregivers, and staff of the Creative Arts Studio and A2 at the Lodge at Broadmead. Celebration of Life to be held at 2 pm on Monday, 11 July, 2016 at First Memorial, 4725 Falaise Drive (Royal Oak) with a reception to follow. Family interment will be held later in the day.
