It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Rosemarie, an adored wife, mum, gran, sister and aunt, after a fierce and brave four-year battle with brain cancer. Rosemarie is survived by her husband Colin, of 48 years, her five children, Lisa (Laurence), Tara (Dean), Julie (Paul), Sarah (Andy) and Mark, her seven beloved grandchildren, Carter, Preston, Callum, Kai, Avery, Olivia, and Adam, as well as her sister, Janet (Michael), their children, Simon and Judith, and their families.
Rosemarie was born in England and spent her childhood by the sea in Lowestoft. Rosemarie’s love of travel took her to Canada, where she emigrated in 1967. It was in the Northwest Territories where she met Colin, and together they had five children. They raised their family in various parts of the NWT and BC, including Inuvik, Yellowknife, Terrace, Gibsons, and Vancouver, before retiring to Victoria.
Rosemarie’s working life consisted of many roles primarily in a caring capacity, and of which many of her latter working years were spent at the BC Cancer Agency in Vancouver.
Rosemarie had a passion for travel, always planning her next trip. This passion took her to numerous countries and continents, often exploring new places, cultures and languages.
Rosemarie was the kindest, most gentle soul whose pride and joy was her family. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her children (aka her “5 little ducklings”) and her grandchildren. She exuded warmth, love and comfort and expected nothing in return. She loved her cups of tea and being by the ocean. Rosemarie adored her grandchildren, for whom she always had a treat, “one for each hand”.
Rosemarie will be remembered for her love of family gatherings and traditions, her expectation that we always treat others the way we would like to be treated, for being a provider of endless love and wisdom and for her enjoyment of a good cup of tea.
She was an angel on earth who was so dearly loved, who is deeply missed and who left so many beautiful memories.
It is hard to forget someone who gave us so much to remember.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Victoria Hospice Society or the BC Cancer Foundation in memory of Rosemarie.
