After a good, long life, Mom passed on, holding her daughters' hands and into Dads' waiting arms, to continue dancing together.
Mom was born and raised in Victoria. She was a beautiful and gifted seamstress, working at Malleks Furriers and Eddys' Clothing Store. She sewed most of our clothes as kids, including our party and grad dresses, as well as our post wedding outfits. Often, she would start making a dress at night, after we went to bed, and it would be completed and at the end of our bed the next morning, ready for us to wear to school....a true labour of love.
Mom and Dad (Les) built their dream home together on Wende Road before they got married on Sept.30, 1950, and remained there until Dads' passing on Sept.25, 2018. They both loved a good party and hosted many fun get togethers at our home over the many years. As kids, we were allowed to get up late at night and dance at those parties to the music of the 50's playing on the 45 record player. Mom also loved to shop, especially at the Thrift stores, and was always very sociable. She always had a beautiful smile that would warm any heart. She would wave to everyone she passed, both old and young, and brought pure joy to so many lives.
We're pretty sure that Mom was the original creator of "Random acts of kindness'', often making someones day with a kind word, a heartfelt card, a caring phone call, a thoughtful gift, or simply just a smile and a warm hug. Other than her delicious potato salad and her above average meatloaf, Mom was a pretty terrible cook. We always knew that when the smoke alarm went off, dinner was ready ! She did however teach us to be kind and loving, to accept people for who they are, and to always find the good in everyone. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will live on in the hearts of all those lives she enriched, just by being herself.
Mom leaves her loved and loving daughters Wende (husband Ron Hinkelman), and Holly (husband Dave Horne), her much loved grandchildren Jennifer Hinkelman, (partner Ryan Gosse), Brett Hinkelman, Neal Horne, Lindsay, (husband Jay Dault), her precious great grandchildren Tealey, Maddie and Dawson Dault, and her dear nephew Barry Vivian.
Our family extends our heartfelt thanks to the staff at the old Oak Bay Lodge, on 2 Maple, and the amazing and loved "family" on Hummingbird House at The Summit. Your kind and gentle care of our Mom is more appreciated than you'll ever know. Sincere thanks also to her wonderful and kind Dr. Matthew Vaughan, who Mom always had a big smile for, which he loved, and her previous and very special family doctors, Dr. David Bell, and Dr. Jennifer Lush, who were always so caring and kind.
Always loved, and never forgotten, Dad and Mom are again together forever.
There will not be a service, but a family graveside service in the future at Hatley Park. Mom loved flowers, which we brought to her weekly, however, in lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so, please consider making a donation to Eldercare at The Summit, or to a pet rescue center of your choice.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.firstmemorialsaanich.com for the Vivian family.
