Husband of 51 years to wife Anita, devoted father to Leah, Grady, son-in-law Shawn, and daughter-in-law Caitlin, and proud grandfather to Finn and Filippa.
A dynamic leader and proud member of the Calgary business community, Darol touched the lives of many. A trailblazer in the financial services industry, he was a well respected advisor to many business leaders and individuals, many of whom became his closest friends.Darol was a generous philanthropist, supporting many individuals and organizations, including the Calgary Mental Health Association where he was a founder of Horizon Housing. He was a longtime supporter of the Calgary Stampede, and was especially proud of serving on the Rodeo Committee during the 100 year anniversary celebration. He loved the outdoors and was an avid golfer, cyclist, hiker, and skier. Darol never missed a chance to cheer on his favourite hometown teams, the Calgary Flames and Stampeders.
He loved oldies music, single malt scotch, fishing, and photography. He enjoyed traveling and always had his next adventure planned. Darol loved his family and especially enjoyed being a Grandpa.
Darol had a gift for storytelling and making others laugh. He shared his generous spirit and love of life with everyone he met.
Alzheimer’s took him from us much too soon, but we celebrate the amazing life he led.
