Marie passed unexpectedly at the age of eighty after a life filled with blessings of loving family and caring friends. Her optimism and joy brightened her life’s path and she shared this with all who knew or met her.
Marie was predeceased by her devoted husband Gilbert Davis in 2013, her parents Robert and Lola, and by her eldest brother, Al. She is survived by her brothers Gary and Donnie, her sons David and Grant, her daughters Karen and Laurel, her daughters-in-law Jamie and Melody, and by her sisters-in-law Karin, Sandy and Connie. She was Grandmother to Garrett and Parker; Aunt to Carol, Doug, Ryan, Lauren, Chris, Jane and Mary; Great Aunt to Claire and, most recently, was excited at becoming Great Aunt to Robert, too.
Marie enjoyed music, concerts, travel, cooking, crafts, computer games, word puzzles and reading but those enjoyments were easily overshadowed by her most-important love of family and close friends.
She was known to be a welcoming hostess at large dinners and gatherings, offering an impressive ‘buffet’ of her finest creations and delights. She enjoyed celebrating Christmas and took pride in decorating her home for the season, with a precisely adorned tree being the centerpiece of her bay-window display. Marie found joy in offering gifts and personal kindness throughout the year, but especially so at Christmas.
She was known to be an avid collector of turtle ornaments. She also kept every greeting card she received for every occasion in the calendar year. Even the smallest joys in life were heartfelt and important to Marie.
She enjoyed wonderful working relationships and service to others throughout her employment years until she retired in 2003. She began working in a small pharmacy in Edson, Alberta, becoming a telephone operator for Alberta Government Telephone. She moved to Kamloops in 1965 where she worked at Woodward’s Department Store and at Isaac’s Pharmacy. In 1975, Marie first worked at People’s Drug Mart in Colwood after moving to Victoria but soon began a long career with the BC Systems Corporation and the BC Government in Voice Services, receiving a well-deserved Award of Excellence in appreciation of her service.
Marie donated generously to community charities and causes such as BC Variety, BC Children’s Hospital, Jeneece Place, World Wildlife Fund, BCSPCA, and to many neighbourhood and school fundraising events.
Her marriage to Gilbert in 1982 was extraordinary for both of them and they enjoyed all that a fine and committed marriage could offer.
Family was the most important aspect of Marie’s caring personality. She lovingly supported aging members to ensure their comfort and care. She took personal interest and pride in the efforts and successes of all of her family and she warmly welcomed new additions through marriages and newborns. Her devoted love enriched each day and will remain as her lasting comfort.
You are invited to take a moment to sign this guestbook and to share your memories of Marie.
A private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
