Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years David Bell in 2016. She is survived by their children Sharon (Bob), Rob (Janet), and Geoff (Corinne); six grandchildren Kristy (Ryan), Greg (Emily), Alicia, Drew, Mandy and Laura; two greatgrandchildren; brother Bill Snowdon; and extended family including Rita, Carly (Brian), Brooke (Beverley) and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Born July 13, 1929 in Saskatoon SK to Jack and Effie Snowdon, the family moved to Regina and Calgary before settling in Vancouver. Joan graduated from Lord Byng High School and Pitman Business College. She and Dave met playing tennis and married in 1954. They lived in Burnaby for 40 years, raising their family and making life-long friends in their neighbourhood. Joan was always keen to contribute to the community including canvassing for charities, serving on the board of the Burnaby Tennis Club, and assisting at her children's sporting events. She taught piano lessons, instilling a love of music in her children and students. Joan worked for the City of Burnaby for ten years, promoting volunteerism. In 1994, Dave and Joan moved to Vancouver Island, first to Arbutus Ridge and in 2016, to Victoria. Joan resided at Parkwood Place before her passing.
Joan and Dave enjoyed wintering at Rancho Casa Blanca near Palm Springs and boating in the Gulf Islands. She was an avid skier, golfer, and tennis player. Her family and friends will deeply miss her kindness, sense of humour and the many memorable get-togethers she hosted.
A celebration of life will be held on February 11, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at First Memorial, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
