John was a great friend along with Jo to our parents for so many years, whether “scotch hopping” or hiking!
After our Dad died, John was especially helpful to Mum, driving her downtown to the bus for Vancouver so she could visit us,  and picking her up.
A humble man you could always count on.

Dear Jo,  Marlene and I were saddened to hear of John’s passing we have often thought of you both when we visit Victoria to see our daughter and grandson.  We first made our connection to you and John when we saw your B&B info on the bulletin board of New Horizons, Hornby Island (1998?).  Over the many years we visited your lovely home on Oakdowne we came to know a little bit more of you both and how welcoming you both were to us.  We now treasure those moments we had with you and John.  Several years ago we went to your place on Oakdowne to say “hello” and were shocked to see a new house had been erected and assumed you both had relocated elsewhere.  To see John’s obituary in the Times Colonist was a shock and we thought of the sadness you and your  family must feel.  Hoping the happy memories you have shared will help you through this sad time. The volunteers at the Canadian Scottish Regiment (Princess Mary's) Museum extend our deepest condolences on the passing of John.  He was instrumental in leading the development and success of the museum during his tenure as the Director. 
His service to Canada, his dedication to his Regiment  and his volunteer work will be remembered.

I worked with John in the Canadian Scottish museum. He was such a gentleman and scholar. This picture is from a trip John and I made to a museum conference in Charlottetown in 2011. We had a blast. RIP John.
