Born in Toronto, John passed up a scholarship to travel the world. He loved architecture and sport, both of which gave opportunities to travel and make lifelong friends. He met his wife Bryce while working in Toronto. She quickly convinced him the west coast would be a fuller life where he could sail year around.
John loved adventure for the thrill and the stories that come after. While he was fierce in sport he was a gentle spirt. A lifelong learner, John studied history and loved foreign film. He liked his job and seeing the buildings around Victoria that he helped make possible.
For the last 18 years, John progressed through stages of dementia that stripped the man we knew away. What was not stripped away was John’s memories of his worldly adventures and his humour. The stories of Arabian horses and camping in Machu Picchu were well told. When words begin to fail John would light up a room with a “Beep, Beep”.
John is survived by his wife Bryce, daughters Adria (Patrick) and Skylar, grandchildren Theodore and Layke and sister Doreen Morgan of Toronto, Ontario.
John’s family would like to the kind staff at 3rd floor maple, Oak Bay Lodge. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to We Rage, We Weep Alzheimer Foundation. Please contact John’s family for information on the celebration of life.
