Joan passed away on June 2, 2023 in Victoria, BC, age 88 years. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by Ron, her husband of 40 years, daughter Cathy (Bob, Cal, Shannon) Parker, son Cam (Jalen, Braeden) Smith, niece Jessica (Adam, Oliver) LeBlanc as well as many wonderful friends and extended family. She is preceded by her parents and brother, Doug Bambrough (2002).
Joan was born to Norm and Eva Bambrough in Govan, Sask, moving to Victoria in 1944. She attended North Ward, SJ Willis and Vic High schools. Joan worked for the Victoria School District for 25 years, retiring in 1996. She worked at the board office and then as school secretary at Willows, Frank Hobbs and her last, and favorite school, Rogers. She loved interacting with the students, parents, and teachers alike and approached her job with dedication, efficiency and good fun.
Joan was a lifelong learner, who participated in almost every craft trend over the years, but she really excelled in baking and sewing. She was a huge sports fan, especially tennis and curling, and line danced for many years. Over the years, Joan and Ron enjoyed travel, especially cruises, where they met many wonderful people and created great memories. Joan had many wonderful friends and neighbours, some since childhood. She loved a good visit, driveway happy hour, high tea or lunch dates with them. Above all, Joan’s favourite thing was spending time with her family. She was the tradition holder and the heart of every family celebration. Christmas will not be the same without her.
Special thanks to Joan’s health care teams, especially Dr. Jennifer Lush, for their compassionate care over the years, and the past several months in particular. Your kindness and responsiveness were appreciated by her and her family.
A Celebration of Joan's Life will be held on July 3, 2023 at 2 PM at First Memorial Funeral Chapel, 4725 Falaise Dr., Victoria, BC.
