Jennie was born Jean May Grout 4th February 1937, the oldest of 3 children to Annie and Fred Grout. Raised and educated in London UK, she spent some time during WWII in Devon as an evacuee. Jennie met her husband Russel at a dance in London. They were married August 1961, and soon after they moved to Toronto, Canada and spent a few years there.
They returned to London in 1964 and remained there until 1996 to raise their family of 2 girls and a boy. Whilst in London, Jennie had a good friend Julia Callaghan, the daughter of future Prime Minister Jim Callaghan. Jennie was invited to Julia’s wedding which included a visit at 10, Downing Street!
Throughout her life Jennie loved the outdoors, travel, gardening and a passion for art, painting, singing and dance. Settling in Victoria in 1996 Jennie continued her love for the outdoors by joining a bowling club where she was a keen champion bowler for many years. In her last few years, Jennie pursued more indoor activities due to her declining health; her passion for drawing and singing, and her singing continued in many forms until her last few days.
She is predeceased by Annie and Frederick Grout, and her close friend Elaine Steynor
She is survived by husband Russel, daughters Cathy and Vicky and son Simeon, 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson, younger brothers Roy and John Grout, many first cousins and other family members.
