Mom's happy childhood was spent with her twin brother Harold and his best friend Roy, who would become her husband of 48 years. They had many wartime adventures, including the birth of their daughter Yvonne. Shortly after they followed Jean's parents and sister Esme to Victoria, BC where she lived for 52 years. Next came the birth of son John. Mom was a resourceful homemaker who enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening and her #1 passion, knitting. Later she found her #2 passion, Girl Guiding. Together with her sister Esme they founded 1st Glanford Company and helped create Kingswood Guide Camp, and then ultimately became area commissioner. She received a lifetime membership to the Guides after 65 years of service, becoming the oldest living life member. She served in the Trefoil Guild in both Saanich and Powell River. Mom also enjoyed driving. She and husband Roy belonged to Victoria Motor Sports Club where Mom showed her competitive side. She loved to beat Dad at his own game. While Dad was building and fixing sport cars, Mom would look after his clients providing tea, cookies and sometimes meals. A real caregiver! The last 9 years of Mom's life were spent in Powell River where she enjoyed her patio garden and the smell of the ocean. She always loved dining out, especially fish and chips. She had a full and rewarding life. Jean was predeceased by her parents Harold and Ivy Carey, husband Roy, sister Esme, and brother Harold. Jean is survived by her daughter Yvonne (Jimi), son John (Sandi), grandchildren Dawn (Steve), Cam (Melody), Tyler (Kristin) and Courtney; great-grandchildren Tess, Daniel, Maylene, Caylea and nephew Peter in England. The family would like to thank Vancouver Coastal Health workers at Powell River Hospital, Evergreen ECU, and Dr. Melissa Meyer for the wonderful care they provided.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers or donations, if you have a garden, plant Mom's favorite flower, a Rose, and don't forget to do a good deed.
