She met her future husband, Sandy, and they were married on January 5, 1952. As a young couple, they moved to Vancouver Island, B.C., first to Port Alberni and then to Victoria.
Helen worked in the plumbing industry as a receptionist and plumbing consultant. She took pride in the services she offered and the products she sold, eventually retiring from Westburne Plumbing and Heating at the age of 65. She enjoyed spending her retirement years in her beautiful garden and with friends and family.
Curling was Helen’s favourite sport and she made many life-long friends at Victoria Curling Club. She skipped in regular league games and at numerous bonspiels, always with a smile and contemplative thought.
She was a gracious hostess and celebrated holidays and birthdays with flair. As a florist in her younger years, flowers were her love and her creative flair with arrangements was present for every occasion.
Helen enjoyed travelling with friends and family. Her 80th birthday was celebrated with family on a cruise through the Hawaiian Islands.
Helen’s family and her dogs were her greatest passion and every year she travelled to Fauquier, B.C., visiting family along the way.
Auntie Helen will be remembered as the loving matriarch of the family. She was kind, generous, dignified, compassionate, loyal, and full of humour and integrity. Any visit with Auntie Helen was met with a smile and a table full of food. Her caring, gentle manner will be sorely missed.
