On Wednesday September 30 Dr. Harold Unger Penner died peacefully at home due to complications of multiple myeloma and advancing years. Harold was born on September 25, 1923 in Lowe Farm, Manitoba and was the last surviving of eight children of Gustav Penner and Helena Unger. He is survived by Joan his loving wife of 63 years. They were central figures in the lives of their 5 children, their spouses, 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He will be sorely missed. As a devoted servant of his community Harold worked for 13 years delivering 1800 babies and making countless nighttime calls as a family doctor in southern Manitoba. Later he trained as a child psychiatrist and served many children in both Winnipeg and Victoria. Harold especially enjoyed teaching at the University of Manitoba. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday Oct.6 at Cadboro Bay United Church located at 2625 Arbutus Road in Victoria. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cancer Society or Victoria Hospice. The family wishes to thank Dr. Ben How and the Victoria Hospice Team for their care and kindness.
