Born December 28th, 1946 in Nelson, BC to parents John Applewhaite and Marion (Ruby) Applewhaite (nee Whitfield), Eve spent her childhood years in Nelson, surrounded by many aunts, uncles and cousins and spending memorable summers on the shores of Kootenay Lake. She would return to the lake each summer in her later years, making many new treasured memories with old and new family alike. A move in the early 1960’s brought the family to Victoria where Eve remained until her passing. Eve spent more than 30 years working for the Provincial Emergency Program, where she made lasting friendships and where she met her soulmate, Jack. Eve’s many pleasures in life included quilting, gardening (well, weeding really), garage sale browsing and enjoying a cup of tea with a cookie (or three) each afternoon. A well “steeped” English tradition in the family. Along with Jack, she also enjoyed long summers puttering at the family cabin in Balfour, ice cream runs and vintage auto shows with the MG Club and, for the last 8 years, being doting grandparents to their precious granddaughter.
Predeceased only 8 short months ago by Jack, her loving partner and husband of almost 40 years, Eve is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Stacey and Ryan Sinclair, her beloved granddaughter, Paige, and her brother and sister-in-law, Robin and Maureen Applewhaite. Mom and Dad are together again and rejoicing in seeing each other. As they did in life, they are no doubt playing many a game of crib, taking long walks and laughing till their cheeks hurt.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff and volunteers at Hospice for their gentle care of Mom. There will be no service by request. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made in her memory to either Victoria Hospice or the Marmot Recovery Foundation. Condolences may be offered at www.firstmemorialsaanich.com.
“Mothers never really die,
They just keep house up in the sky.
They polish the sun by day
And light the stars that shine at night,
Keep the moonbeams silvery bright
And in the heavenly home above
They wait to welcome those they love”
