WILLIAMS, Dorothy Hilda (nee Marshall), b. May 27, 1927, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2015 in Victoria, B.C. Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Dorothy attended Hamilton Central Collegiate Institute and, as a mature student, McMaster University (BA 1978). She taught for many years in the Wentworth County school system before relocating to Victoria in 1980. Her passions included social justice, travel, hiking, photography, Scottish county dancing and the Gaelic language. Dorothy was predeceased by husband Albert Williams (d.1977); second husband Victor Vokes (d.2011); sons-in-law Ken Niblett (d.2003) and Alan Hill (d.2012); and daughter-in-law Cheryl Burger Dawson (d.2014).
Dorothy will be deeply missed by her many friends; her children, Bob (Ruth), Clara (Rob), Louise (Matt), Rosemary, David and Gordon; eight grandchildren; and many great grandchildren, cousins, nephews and nieces. Dorothy’s family offers special thanks to Nicole Donaldson and to the compassionate and caring staff at Clover Point Care. A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 30 at the First Unitarian Church, 5575 W Saanich Rd. Interment and a family service will take place in Hamilton, Ontario.
