She passed peacefully at Kiwanis Pavilion. Her great spirit for family, compassion, dance and friends will be very much missed. She is survived by Michael Keating (Kristine Anderson), Vana (Paul) George and Lisa (John) Sherrah. Grandchildren Brianne (Taylor, Riley, Jamie, Boston), Krista (Emma, Daniel), Crystal, Tiffany and Clare, from her first husband, Victor Keating.
Doreen was a dancer in Victoria in the 40's and 50’s, Bonnie Ward’s Troupe WWII shows, and later at the Sirroco Club, 4 Mile restaurant under Florence Clough Dance School. In 1950 she won a trip to Hollywood and screen test as a prize from Roy Gordon’s Victoria Times Talent Contest. She attended Victoria high school and Vic West elementary school. Doreen was a dancer in Victoria in the 50’s, at the Sirroco Club and 4 Mile restaurant under Florence Clough. She had her own dance school in Vancouver in the 1960’s and in Ottawa where Victor was stationed. She travelled with her family and husband in the military across the United States, Canada, Greece and Cyprus. She worked at El Rosa Modes dress shop in Oak Bay in the 70’s, Sears Canada and lastly at ITI Technology as an administrator in the 90’s. She had a basket business and also managed a Bed and Breakfast. She taught grade 2 ballet at Kerry Kritch dance school, granddaughter Krista was one of her students. She also travelled with Dolly and Barbara Bond to Asia. She enjoyed her time with Cordova Bay 55 Club.
Doreen will be incredibly missed by her family and many friends. She was loved by all who knew her and she loved to party and had many elaborate dinner parties complete with musical numbers. She was a lady who always dressed well and was caring to others. Doreen passed on her love of dance and music to her family and was always encouraging them to follow their dreams and never the crowd. Her family members include talents such as: dancer, vocalists, figure skater, pianist and musical band members. Players of guitar, piano, cello, saxophone, violin, trumpet and drums.
