Dogar was born in Palahi, Punjab India where he learned the importance of hard work and tenacity at the young age of 6. He was predeceased by his siblings Jagat Singh and Surjit Kaur.
He is survived by his loving wife of 74 years Charan Kaur. His spirit is carried on by his children: Jagtar (Jagdeep), Harjinder (Jasbir), Bhupinder (Kamaljit), Parminder (Jeff) and Mandeep (Nicole); predeceased by Satvinder (Paramjit). The family he created with Charan grew to include 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Family meant everything to him. He was always there to lend a helping hand or share his wisdom by lovingly telling you how you were doing it wrong.
Dogar immigrated to Canada in 1959, sponsored by his uncle Rattan Singh. His first jobs on the Saanich Peninsula were as a farm labourer. He eventually worked in the forest industry from Mesachie Lake to Sooke, while he still continued as a farm labourer on his days off. Dogar was a man of great resourcefulness as he started his own successful business and later his 5 acre hobby farm. He was best known on the Peninsula for his strawberries and in recent years for his garlic. He never forgot the gift of sponsorship his uncle gave him as he returned this gesture by sponsoring many others. His legacy lives on in over a hundred people living in Canada.
He will be remembered most for being a pioneer of the community and the pillar of our family. He gave us all the solid foundation we stand on today. His passion for family, his garden and his community was unmatched.
The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff at 6 South at VGH who took wonderful care of Dad.
Services will be held at First Memorial at 4725 Falaise Drive on Sunday July 16th at 12 noon. Prayer services to follow at the Sikh Temple at 1210 Topaz. Live Stream will be provided by First Memorial.
We wish to thank all of the family, friends and neighbours that have lifted us up at this time. In lieu of flowers, Charan is asking for donations to be made to the Canucks Autism Network in memory of Dogar Singh Bains.
Dad, you gave so much of yourself to all of us, we will continue to work hard to make you proud. We will always keep you close to our hearts. It brings us comfort knowing that you are reunited with your son and our brother Satvinder now.
