Cor (Mr C) was born September 11, 1931 in the coastal fishing village of Scheveningen, The Netherlands. He was the 4th of 7 children and grew up during the Second World War. He came to Canada in 1958 on the Groote Beer emigrant ship, raised a family (Rene, Jacoba), and eventually settled on Vancouver Island. His passion was to be at sea, and worked as an oceanographic technician with the Institute of Ocean Sciences in Sidney, BC. Some of his best times were of countless voyages on Government weatherships to Station Papa in north Pacific storms. He loved to design and build, and built two sailboats and three homes. During his retirement he fully embraced computer technology. He was a proud and supportive grandfather to his grandsons Benjamin, Aidan and Axl. We have fond memories of many times spent with Mr C at his local Tim Horton’s and Chinese Food restaurants.
