Catherine is predeceased by her husband Wally (2020), her brother Archie, her beloved sisters Florence Kennedy and Marion Andrews and a multitude of family pets.
Left behind with loving memories are her daughter Cori (Dan Thomas), son Craig, granddaughters Cara Prince and Tahlia Laboucan and nephews and nieces.
Mom grew up on Avebury Avenue in Victoria, attending Oaklands school and graduating from “Good Ol ‘ Vic High”. Her passion was basketball and she played for Vic High and in the Commercial league for the 'Hot Shots’. The Kennedy sisters were all fabulous players and won many Provincial Championships for their respective teams, with Florence and Marion winning a Canadian Championship. She loved the game and the lifelong friendships she made with her teammates. After Normal School mom began her 40 year teaching career, retiring from Gordon Head Elementary in 1990. She was patience, kind and very proud of her students and her career. Mom was a fabulous skater (she met dad at the old Memorial Arena at Friday Night Skate). She and dad enjoyed skiing and spent many days on the slopes. In her spare time Mom sewed, knitted, gardened, golfed with her pals, loved to walk the dogs and supported all of us in a myriad of sports. She absolutely adored and was so proud of her granddaughters. She had a very special bond with Cara and loved to spend time with Tahlia when she came from Calgary to visit. Mom was beautiful, kind, empathetic and had a great sense of humour. We thank her for everything she did for all of us. We will miss her immeasurably and love her forever.
Many thanks to the team at Sidney Care Home for the love, care, empathy and kindness that mom received from everyone. We treasure the fun times we had with them all.
As mom requested, we will be spreading her ashes on Roberts Bay in Sidney. If you would like to remember Catherine, please consider a donation to the Victoria SPCA in her name, she would love it!
