It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Carole Anne Schembri, Age 82 years, of Langley, British Columbia, who died peacefully on December 27, 2022 at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria.
Carol was born January 17, 1940 on Mattie Settlement in Guysborough County, Nova Scotia to parents Rita Bonvie and James Mattie.
At the age of 16, she trained to be a nurse at the Halifax Infirmary, and later moved to Toronto to practice nursing. There she met her husband Spiro Schembri and they were married in 1958.
Carol and family moved to Yellowknife, NWT in 1958 where they stayed until their return to Antigonish, NS in 1964. In 1976, the family moved to Tarxien, Malta until Spiro’s passing in 1984, upon which Carol returned to live in Edmonton, AB, and then finally landing in Port Coquitlam, BC, in 1985 where she started her own child-care business.
She leaves behind a legacy of family, and will be remembered for her jovial nature, her passion for games and cards, her obsession with plants, her skills with knitting needles, her love of all seafood things, and her extraordinary ability to soothe babies. Her devotion and service to her family will never be forgotten; she was a fiercely proud grandmother and great grandmother who was quick to forgive, and who could always find a silver lining.
