Beulah was born on the family homestead near Rumsey, Alberta on April 15, 1929 to parents Elverton Jay and Matilda Rasmina Walrod. The family farmed in the area before moving to Kelowna, BC in 1940 where she grew up with her three older sisters. After high school she attended the Berean Bible College in Calgary, Alberta where she met her future husband to be, Rev. Gerald Ross Newsham. Her and Gerald were married on July 24, 1951 in Kelowna.
Their ministry took them from rural Alberta to Mayo, Yukon where their three children were born. In 1962 they returned to Alberta, first to Ponoka and then to Calgary where they continued raising their family. In 1976 Gerald accepted a parish in Peachland, BC and family moved to the Okanagan valley. They later retired in the Westbank area and enjoyed many years there. In 2013 they joined their daughter, Melody in moving to Victoria.
Beulah was known for her quick wit and soft-spoken way with words. She was always ready to listen and kindly share her wisdom. Beulah was very fond of working with children and had a great love of music which she passed onto her family. Her autoharp playing and beautiful singing voice blessed many a gathering. She was also known as an avid seamstress and knitter and many benefited from her beautiful creations. The home was always filled with wonderful aromas as she loved to bake and share with others. Feeding the wild birds, cuddling her kitties and puttering in her rose garden always brought her great joy. She touched many lives with her compassion, kindness and generosity.
Beulah was predeceased by her parents and her sisters Mildred, Irma and Phyllis. She is survived by her beloved husband Gerald, as well as her three children; daughter Jay Newsham, son Richard Newsham (Irene) and daughter Melody Esser (Ralph). Also leaves behind her grandchildren Shawn and Sarah Zirri, Christopher and Nathan Newsham, Erin and Kyra Esser as well as 5 great grandchildren.
There will be no service as per her wishes. Memorial donations in her name may be made to the Parkinson Society in lieu of flowers.
