Born in Wales in 1932, Betty Walker ( née Larkin) was a woman whose life was a beautiful tapestry of love, adventure, and vibrant passions. She spent her early years in Ayrshire, Scotland, where she picked up a charming Scottish lilt that she carried with her throughout her life. Her love for Scottish culture didn't stop at her accent; Betty was an avid Scottish Country dancer, gracing dance floors with her elegance and energy. She believed there was no better way to stay young at heart than to keep dancing, and she did just that well into her later years.
Betty’s life was one of grand adventures. After crossing the Atlantic on the Queen Mary, she and her dear friend Lyndis embarked on an epic road trip across Canada, eventually arriving in Quesnel. It was there that she met Roger, the love of her life, with whom she shared countless cherished memories.
A woman of many talents and interests, Betty was also a proud advocate of sustainable living long before it became a global movement. She grew her own vegetables, championed plastic recycling, and had an uncanny knack for finding creative ways to reuse cling-film—because Betty believed that every small act mattered.
Her artistic spirit didn’t stop at dancing. Betty took the stage as an acting co-star in the local hit play “Feeding the Ducks,” where her natural charisma and humor shone through. She had a way of bringing laughter to any room, whether on stage or in her daily life.
Betty’s love for literature was another cornerstone of her life. She relished discussions about the latest works by Jeffrey Archer and other authors, always eager to exchange thoughts and ideas over a cup of tea.
Her generosity extended to the simple joys of life. Betty never missed a chance to hand you a newspaper coupon for a free or discounted grocery item, and she delighted in sharing stories about local Oak Bay residents she knew, weaving her love for community into every conversation.
Betty Walker lived a life full of grace, joy, and a little bit of mischief. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew her, danced with her, and shared in her laughter. We love you, Betty, and we’ll miss your wisdom, wit, and endless supply of coupons. ❤️
