Survived by the love of her life Ernie, children Brent (Gwyn), Darren (Adriana), Lee-Anne (Sean), grandchildren Ilana, Max & Archie, Alexia & Saskia, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and relatives.
Beloved daughter of the late Theodore and Esther (“Cooksey) Wasmund of Bancroft, Ontario and dear sister to Webster and Gunnar (Audrey), both deceased, and Bert (Birgit) who lives in Milton, Ontario.
Sarah was first raised on the family farm in Monteagle, Ontario, where she attended a one-room school for her first year in public school and obtained a sound foundation in rural communal living. The family moved to Bancroft where she completed her public and high school education, after which Sarah graduated from the Ottawa Civil Hospital Nursing Program in 1965. In Ottawa, Sarah met and married Ernie Prokop, an RCMP officer and they launched a fulfilling 52 year journey beginning in the friendly, but cooler interior of Saskatchewan. After stops in Alberta they settled in Kelowna in 1977 and embarked on a successful career of Interior Decorating & Design. Sarah taught design courses in Canada and California, and helped establish master franchises in Toyko, Australia, New Zealand. Her vision of facilitating the customer's needs for function, budget, design, and colour was second to none. Sarah's perfection for colour coordinating served all of her clients well. Procedures and standards she implemented with window coverings manufacturing, finishing and installation have never been equaled.
To the many that knew her - Sarah's drive, conviction, and stubbornness never wavered. She said the most valuable character trait a person could possess - but that a rare few actually did - was to be unassuming. Sarah loved a good conversation - even if yours and her perspectives differed. The showroom was a social gathering for clients existing and new. Too often clients would spend hours laughing, talking , crying about matters true and dear, current and past. Her clients were friends first, clients second.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Hardy , Dr. Wade, Dr. Martin - and numerous other Drs. at VJH Polson Tower 5, 6, and Oncology Floors. As well the many Nurses but especially Teresa, Sarah, and Leanne on 6, and Anne-Marie on 7. Thanks to the periphery teams including Landon, Jackie, Kim, and special props to Kari Hedstrom - the bee that non-stop buzzed around for us. Thank you all.
A Private family gathering will be held at a later date, as per Mom’s wishes.
