It is with deepest sadness that the family of Robert “Bob” George Barker announces his peaceful passing on Sunday, August 7 at the age of 78 in the Vernon Jubilee Hospital. Bob was surrounded by family during his final days including his wife of 33 years , Millie (Dafoe)Barker and his three loving daughters Shannon (Mike)Weir, Colleen Pyle and Karen (Phil)Torrens.
Bob was born in Regina Saskatchewan on October 19, 1943, to Fred and Thelma Barker, both pre-deceased and was a younger brother to his sister, Jackie Malcolm and his twin brother, Bryan Barker (Gwen).
He also leaves behind his three nephews, Stephen &Scott Malcolm and Jason Barker.
Bob moved to the “Sunny Okanagan”town of Vernon from Portage La Prairie, Manitoba in 1969 with his first wife of 23 years, Janice Stock, where he worked as a Pressman for over 30 years at the Vernon Daily News Bob was an active outdoorsman who in the spring and summer enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing and coaching baseball while in the winter he could be found skating and playing racquetball. He also looked forward to his Saturday night so he could watch Hockey Night in Canada.
Bob could also be found reading, gardening, doing puzzles and listening to music (especially at Christmas time!!) Bob had a very creative side to him as he was quite an artist.
Watching and following his grandchildren play sports gave Bob tremendous joy.
Bob will be dearly remembered by his wife Millie, and her son Dale Dafoe(Leslie)and and her daughter Shauna Dafoe. His step grandchildren Paige, Bailee,David and Brooklyn will miss their Papa greatly. Bob and Millie spent thirty three years together travelling, camping, fishing, playing card games and visiting with friends and family. Bob also had six grandchildren from his three daughters, Tyson, Mya and Jace Weir, Bryce and Kyla Pyle, and Jordyn Torrens who will miss all of Papa‘s stories and funny jokes. The family would like to thank all of the kind staff of nurses and doctors at the VJH For making Bob feel comfortable in his last few days. A private celebration of life will be taking place at a later date. In Lieu of flowers a donation to the VJH Foundation would be appreciated.
