Paul was born in Victoria, BC and joined the Canadian Military at 18, serving in the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada, who rebadged to the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry. It was during this time he met and married his wife Sharon. After 5 years of military service he trained to become an electrician, moving his family to Vernon in 1973. Paul was a supportive and proud dad, a caring and playful grandpa (papa) and a loving and devoted husband.
He will be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor and his association for many years with the Vernon Girls Trumpet Band. He was a passionate supporter of the music programs in schools. When his oldest daughter was in grade eight at Fulton, he helped out the band teacher by drumming for the band when the band’s drummer had dropped out. We even remember him stepping in as bass drummer of the VGTB, for a parade, when the drummer called in sick.
He was predeceased by his parents George and Edith, his brother Ray, and his sister Eleanor.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 42 years, Sharon, his daughters Lisa(Michael) Barth of Toronto, Kassandra (Evan) Stafford of Victoria, his son Stephen of Calgary, his brother Ken(Kelly) Whitehead of Victoria, his grandchildren Anna, Clara, Emrys. Amanda, Raymond, Nicholas, and Christopher; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be fondly remembered by numerous friends and associates.
In lieu of any flowers those of you wishing to may make a contribution to your local school's music program, or Vernon’s Baerg-McMurtry Cancer Clinic . Paul was big on supporting music in the schools and his two daughters (Lisa and Kassandra), who he was immensely proud of, are music teachers.
Paul always said, "Life is for the living and don't waste a minute of it". In keeping with Paul's wishes, there will be no service of any kind.
Cremation Arrangements are in care of Vernon Funeral Home 250-542-0155.
