Norie (Nora) Taylor (nee Hutchinson) fell asleep in death after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, July 13, 2017. She was predeceased by her father Bob in 2012 and her brother-in-law Marcel in 1993.
Norie is survived by her husband of 38 years Brian, mother Mary, sister Joanne Doiron, nephew Kyle (Alicia), niece Alicia (Danny), step-daughter Shealyn (Shannon), granddaughter Kaitlyn (Thomas), great-grand daughters Jayda, Khloe, and Stella, many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and friends and last but never least her “little man” Rocky.
Norie was born on February 14, 1955 in Burnaby, British Columbia the younger of two daughters. She spent her school years between Seattle, Nakusp and Coquitlam. At 18 years of age she started working for Sears Canada in the Burnaby Warehouse where she met her husband Brian. They soon found themselves accepting a transfer to Edmonton and then on to Toronto, where she became Superintendent of the Purchasing Department, responsible for over 1400 clerical staff.
In 1998, Brian accepted early retirement and not long after that, Norie realized that joining Brian on the golf course would far outweigh those long days at work. So she quickly left the corporate world, and together they began planning their retirement. In the year 2000 they decided to move back to British Columbia, and retired in the beautiful Okanagan Valley.
Norie was introduced to the Bible by her Mom and Dad at a young age, and as she came to appreciate the truth of God’s Word she made a conscious decision in her twenties to dedicate her life to doing Gods Will and pursued the ministry as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
“Any hoots” Norie Taylor we will miss you terribly, but will always remember:
Your smile….. that lit up our lives
Your flair for decorating and entertaining
Your enjoyment of music, from blues to jazz to rock & roll - (country not so much)
Your delight in nature and the beauty that surrounded you
Your sense of humor, your laugh - contagious and genuine
Your odd dislike of anything “orange”
Your affection for animals - especially the ‘furry ’ones
Your acts of compassion, your loyalty and frequent deeds of kindness
Your love of books - from your daily Bible reading to searching for that last “Perry Mason” novel
Your endurance, and the grace you displayed accepting what you could not change
But most of all
Your fierce and unconditional love for family and friends!!
Norie looked forward to the promise found in the Bible at Rev 21:4 “…and God will wipe out every tear form their eyes, and death will be no more….”
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the East Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1424 Mission Road, Vernon. BC.
The family appreciate the compassionate and dignified care that Norie received during her brief illness from the staff of The North Okanagan Hospice House, and from Dr. Chris Cunningham. We request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to the North Okanagan Hospice Society, 3506 27 Avenue, Vernon, BC V1T 1S4.
