It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Leonard Brad Chapman, 56, of Vernon, B. C. on October 16, 2015. Brad and his eldest son, Florian, 26, passed away at Taylor, B. C. near Ft. St. John.
Brad was born in Kamloops, B.C. on July 25, 1959. He was the eldest son of Jack and Joan Chapman. The Chapman family moved to Vernon in 1972. As a young man, Brad worked as a meat cutter at Safeway before founding LB Chapman Contracting. Brad married Michaela Faetsch and together they enjoyed spending time with their children on their ranch west of Vernon. Travel was a priority for the adventurous family, with Europe and Africa being favourite destinations. An avid outdoorsman, Brad lived his life to the fullest, pursuing passions that included hunting, snowmobiling, boating, flying and good Cuban cigars.
Brad leaves behind his loving wife, Michaela; four children: Dan, Veronika, Oliver, and Max, in addition to his daughter-in-law, Jill Chapman. Brad is further survived by extended family, including mother, Joan Chapman; brother Brent (Cindy) Chapman; sister Barbara Chapman; and niece Felisha Haak; and mother-in-law Sigrid Faetsch; all of Vernon, B. C. Other family members from around the province are: grandmother Eileen Wenn of Chilliwack; aunt Linda (Glenn) Rand from Victoria; aunt Sarah Chapman and cousin Charles Chapman of Chilliwack; and numerous cousins and friends. German relatives include: brother-in-law Manfred (Dagmar) Faetsch; niece Franzi Faetsch; and nephew Simon Faetsch.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Friday, November 6, 2015 to be held at the Alliance Church in Vernon commencing at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Brad’s name may be made to Okanagan College, 1000 KLO Road, Kelowna, B.C. V1Y 4X8 where funds will be directed towards a scholarship for the aviation program.
