It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Cornelius (Neil) Clauson. Neil was received into the arms of Jesus on February 18, 2024. Born and raised in Vernon B.C., it was there that Neil met and married his loving wife Kay (Katie Maksymiw). The two enjoyed 66 years together, sharing interests in hunting, fishing, boating and snowmobiling. Neil and Kay together built their family home on 39th avenue and filled it full of love.
Growing up in the country with limited resources, Neil learned from his father to fix things rather than run to town for a new one. Neil became very handy. As a young man he worked in a few different jobs including butcher and valued service man with Kal Tire.
Neil started a career with the City of Vernon as an equipment operator and during his long tenure gained the friendship and respect of many.
In the early years of retirement Kay and Neil spent many hours camping in their holiday trailer and made many trips to Alberta to visit sons Wayne and Brian. Over the years declining health limited Neil's activities but never diminished his joy of putting his arms around his loved ones or spoiling the family dog Patches. Neil is remembered by everyone as being kind and thoughtful, and will be greatly missed.
Neil was predeceased by his parents Henry and Helen, son Brian (2015), wife Kay (2020), sisters Rhoda Simila (2013) and Vivian Leonard (2023).
Neil is survived by son Wayne (Marjorie), daughter-in-laws' Dorothy, Lorraine and JoAnne, Sister Verna Fisher, brothers-in-law Vern Thomas and Joe (Linda) Maksymiw, grandchildren Anthony (Victoria), Julia, Heather (Fabian) Bonjean, Mark, Brendan (Kristen), Nicole and Kelsey, and great grandchildren Aiden and Iyla Bonjean.
The family would like to thank all of the caring staff of Pleasant Valley Manor in Armstrong for their kind and dedicated care of Neil over the last three plus years.
A celebration of life will be be held on May 25th 2024 at 1 PM at Alexis Park Church 3906 35A St Vernon BC
