It is with heavy hearts the family of Betty Doreen Pennock (nee Riggs) announce her unexpected passing in Vernon, BC at the age of 86. Betty will be deeply missed by her children Gwenn Glembiski and Mark Pennock; grandchildren Danna Ringrose, Krystoffer Pennock, Danyll Pennock and Kyle Pennock; great grandchildren Ryder and Rose Ringrose, Aimeé, Jensyn, Rylie, Avery and Clementine Pennock, as well as many extended family and friends.
Betty was born and raised just outside of Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, where she stayed until the age of 15. From there she moved to Toronto and became a nanny, which was one of her many jobs before she fulfilled her dream of becoming a Licensed Registered Nurse. After graduating, Betty began her nursing career in Edmonton, working at a number of hospitals before completing her career at the Glenrose Rehab Hospital after 31 years of nursing. Upon retirement, Betty moved to the Okanagan to enjoy the last 28 years near the lake, which is how she coined the nickname “Lady of the Lake.” Her grandchildren have fond memories of time spent with Betty close to the water. Betty was very fond of animals, travelling and the occasional game of golf. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Betty’s memory at Pleasant Valley Funeral Home, 4303 Pleasant Valley Road, Vernon, BC on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty’s memory may be made to Interior Mental Health.
