The family of Bernice Doreen Cameron, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt are heartbroken to announce her passing at the age of 87 years young. Bernice was predeceased by her parents, Elton (Shorty) and Anne Palmer, brother, Don Palmer, precious granddaughter Shawna and, most recently, her cherished husband Arnold Cameron. She is survived by daughters Kim Cameron and Jill Cameron-Paul (Bruce), grandchildren Kris (Patrick), Lisa (Scott), Joshua (Megan), Sarah (James) and Meghan (Mitch) and great grandchildren Corbin, Addison, Alexis, Logan and Willow.
Bernice was born in Bonnyville, Alberta and the family relocated to Grimshaw, Alberta when Bernice was 4 years old. She grew up as a fun loving, adventurous girl with a close circle of friends. Bernice loved playing the piano and shared duties with close lifelong friend Carmen Johnson playing in their school orchestra. In the mid 1950s Bernice met and fell for Arnold Cameron and they were married in 1957. Daughter Kim was born in Berwyn, Alberta and the family relocated to Jasper, Alberta where daughter Jill was born. In 1969 the family relocated back north to Peace River, Alberta where they resided in town and then on a hobby farm west of town. Bernice worked during those years at The Hudson Bay and then Peace River Drug. Following Arnold’s retirement, the couple moved to Vernon, BC in 1998 and enjoyed life on a 6-acre property in the Coldstream Valley followed by a move in 2015 to their last home in town.
Bernice and Arnold spent many wonderful times travelling the world, making friends along the way. She loved to garden and took local courses to become a yarn spinner as well as a talented folk artist and continued playing the piano for pleasure the whole time. Bernice was a very personable lady, well liked by all who met her. She could lay out a veritable smorgasbord in minutes if anyone dropped by unexpectedly and loved hosting friends and family. She loved her kids, grandkids and great grandkids unconditionally and without fail and was there for them at any time with open arms, hugs and kind words.
Having lost Arnold just a couple months ago, we were not prepared for Bernice’s sudden health issue and are devastated by her loss. Bernice will forever be remembered with love and missed deeply by the family, friends and relatives. We are provided with a little comfort knowing she has been reunited with her Ace, Arnold. Rest in peace Bernice, Nana, Bunny.
