It is with deep sadness, we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather (“G-Paw”) on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014 at the age of 88.
Born in Keliher, Saskatchewan on September 1, 1926, Al spent much of his life in many pursuits. He helped out at the family farm until he left for northern Manitoba where he did numerous jobs. He used a dog sled team in his commercial fishing venture, wore snowshoes while working as a seismic surveyor, worked in an underground mine, as a taxi driver, as an assistant to an aircraft engineer, and later became an automotive mechanic and mobile home salesman. These jobs took him and his family to Estevan Saskatchewan, Calgary Alberta, The Pas Manitoba, Dryden Ontario, then finally to settle in Vernon, British Columbia.
Al is survived by his wife, May (Newton); 4 children: Kelly Brausse (Barb) of Fraserville, Ontario, Murray Brausse (Connie) of Maidstone, Saskatchwan, Brenda Krieger (Gary) of Vernon, and Lori Baillie (Don) also of Vernon. Also left to miss their grandpa (“G-Paw”) are his grandchildren: Kallie Brausse, Steven Brausse, Adam Brausse, Amy Baillie, Jennifer & Melissa Brausse and Becky Baillie; step-granddaughters: Jade, Toni, and Nikki Krieger; and great-grandchild, Kaelen. He was one of 12 siblings, now survived only by his sister, Ruth Jesse of Maidstone, Saskatchewan.
In his retirement, Al loved to learn new things on his computer, ride his scooter, play with his dog ‘Boo’ and tinker in his yard. He always loved & found beauty in the nature around him. Al was a long time member of the Vernon Flying Club and was made an Honorary Member this year, of which he was very proud.
During the past nineteen months, Al lived at Creekside Landing where he loved tending the flowers & feeding the birds. The family extends a sincere thank you to the staff for their caring and compassion.
At Al’s request, a service will not be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Al may be made to St. Paul’s Hospital, 178-1081 Burrard St. Vancouver, B.C. V6Z 1Y6. Condolences may be offered at www.pleasantvalleyfh.com
