Bill Scott, much loved patriarch of our family and friend to many, died on the 17th of April, 2010, surrounded by loved ones at the age of 82. Born in Jersey City on the 11th of September, 1927 to Agnes and William Scott, Jr., he was raised with brothers Bob and Jay on the New Jersey shore. After losing both of his parents by the age of 16, Bill joined the Merchant Marines in 1945 and travelled the world. In the port of Sydney, Australia he met a beautiful Bondi girl named Audrey at a dance, fell madly in love and subsequently married her on the 15th of October, 1949, his brother Jay’s birthday. They lived at Bondi Beach until Bill joined the US Air Force in 1953 and was stationed in England where they started a family, travelled around Europe and made return visits to Australia and the US. Over the next few years, Bill and Audrey would travel, camp and sightsee with their three children, Peter, Tony and Kim Michelle. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Bill and Audrey took their young family to Ventura, California. Bill started work at the Ventura Post Office, eventually becoming Postmaster in Camarillo. He also found time to be involved in many activities including Scoutmaster of Troop 109, longtime member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Secretary of Channel Islands Masonic Lodge #214, Institutional Review Board member & Auxiliary President at Community Memorial Hospital, as well as volunteering to feed the homeless. Bill took early retirement to care for Audrey during her prolonged illness, and remained devoted to her until her death in 1997. Although devastated at losing the love of his life, Bill found happiness again when he married Jeanne Dore, and together they travelled and enjoyed family and friends. Bill was a wonderful role model as a father, grandfather and friend, a tireless provider and a great supporter of the community. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends and all those whose life he touched. Vaya con Dios! Bill is survived by his children, Peter and Tony Scott & Kim Michelle Kemick, grandchildren Mike, Brian, Casey, Summer, Dusty, & Colby, Angela Sutter, & extended family & friends. Special thanks to nephew Bill Scott.
A memorial service will be held 3 P.M., Saturday, April 24, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church 3290 Loma Vista Rd., Ventura, with reception following at the Ventura Masonic Temple, 482 E. Santa Clara St., Ventura. Donations in his memory can be sent to a charity of your choice.
