Bill Meixner, 70, passed away peacefully on the evening of July 21, 2015 at Community Memorial Hospital with his wife and children by his side. He bravely fought a ten month battle with esophageal cancer and other complications. Bill had an exceptional team of doctors who gave him wonderful care, comfort and extra quality time.
Bill was born in St. Louis, Missouri, to Harry and Nellie Meixner on October 27, 1944 and had many happy childhood memories. After high school, he proudly served in the Marine Corp Reserves for six years during which time Bill was also employed and trained in millwork and carpentry. These skills led him to form his own family business, William R. Meixner & Sons, doing residential and commercial remodeling. In 1979, Bill moved to Ventura where the company continues to be successful today.
In later years, he developed a passion for building hot rods. His most notable build was the unique Vettebaker. His creation consisted of blending a 1955 Studebaker truck body and cab with various Corvette year styles to celebrate Corvette’s 50th-year anniversary. It won many show awards and even better, he met many special friends through hot rodding.
What was most special to Bill was his family. He was most fortunate to have all his kids and grandkids living in Ventura. There were many celebrations, Monday night dinners and St. Louis Cardinal game gatherings at the house. It was during these special times he could be heard saying his favorite phrase: “Life is Good”.
Bill will be deeply missed by his wife of 34 years, Joan; sons, Richard and Bill (Cathy); daughter, Dana (Mike); grandchildren, Beau (16), Blake (14), Brady (12), Brennen (10), Bill (7), Olivia (5), Vivian (3 mos.); brothers, Bud (Nancy) and Edward; mother-in-law, Marge; brother-in-law, Steve (Kathy); sister-in-law, Kathie (Bob); numerous nieces and nephews; as well as many special friends and two very loving and loyal four-legged friends Champ and Taz.
A memorial service will be held for Bill on Saturday, August 8, 2015, 2:00 pm, at Ted Mayr Funeral Home 3150 Loma Vista Road Ventura, with the Reverend Dan Hull officiating. The United States AMines Corps will present military honors.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home.
