It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved 96 year old mother, Vivian Mitchell. She passed away peacefully in the early morning on July 23, 2016, surrounded by her loved ones.
Vivian was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on June 17, 1920 to Reta M. and Bryan S. Jewell. Most of her youth was spent on the family farm in Terre Haute, Indiana. At a young age the family moved to Tucson, Arizona where she met her first husband, Earl H. Caid and together they had two sons and a daughter. On April 12, 1945, she married Joe J. Mitchell and together they had four daughters.
She was a homemaker and her greatest joy was taking care of her seven children, many of her grandchildren, as well as other peoples. Vivian was very involved with her children and her community. She was PTA President of the Avenue, E.P. Foster School, room mother to many of her children’s classes, served on the election committee for many years and a judge for the Ventura County Fair.
Vivian is survived by her sons, Earl A. Caid, of Fresno and Robert M. Caid (Joanne), of Auberry; daughters, Janet Hendrix, of Fresno, Mary Jo Mitchell, of Ventura, Tina Ellis (Tom), of Prather, Carol Magdaleno (Ken) and Debra Morgan (Bob) of Auberry; brother, Gary Jewell, of Redding. She leaves a legacy of 14 Grandchildren, 26 Great Grandchildren, 18 Great, Great, Grandchildren, and 3 Great, Great, Great Grandchildren; Vivian also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Services will take place on Friday, July 29, 2016, at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, in Ventura, with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., and service beginning at Noon. Burial will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, in Ventura.
