Virginia Rose, 89, passed away peacefully in Ventura on Friday, October 10, 2014 following a brief illness. She was born in Norristown, Pennsylvania on March 20, 1925, to the late Michael and Lena Barmazel. Virginia moved to California at the age of seven. She attended local Los Angeles Schools including Fairfax High School where she was active in several sports including Tennis, Basketball, and Volleyball of which she was the captain. Following graduation Virginia assisted the WWII war effort as a riveter at the Lockheed Building working on P38’s.
In 1946 Virginia ran into a former High School friend, Herbert Rose, on Old-Town Hollywood Blvd. They married in 1948. Virginia and Herb settled in the San Fernando Valley and welcomed their first child, Diana in 1953, and a son, Daniel in 1954. The Rose family continued to grow with a third child, Richard in 1956. Herbert retired from NBC in 1985 and the family settled in Ventura.
Virginia was an avid shopper, and loved to purchase clothing for her kids and grandkids. She greatly enjoyed the holidays and spoiling her family. Virginia also enjoyed gardening. She was an active supporter of the Peace Officers Benevolent Association, the USO, and the local Salvation Army.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to a charity of your choice.
Virginia was preceded in death by her sisters, Ruth Turner and Vivian Blanchard. She is survived by her beloved husband, Herbert Rose; three children; and four grandsons.
The Rose family wants to express thanks and gratitude to the staff at Victoria Care Center, Community Memorial Hospital, Nick and the staff from Ted Mayr Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life service for Virginia will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Rd., Ventura.
