Virginia Scollan Johnson died November 2, 2013, at her home in Ventura, with her family at her bedside. She was born August 17, 1924, in Cambridge, MA to Francis Xavier Scollan and Helen Gladys Baird.
During the depression, Virginia’s family moved to Centerville, Cape Cod, MA, later returning to Belmont, MA where she graduated from Belmont High School in1942. Virginia then attended the Kathleen Dell Business School, graduating with a secretarial degree in 1944.
She married the love of her life, Henry, in 1945 after he returned from WWII. In 1955, they moved with their two young daughters, to pioneer a helicopter operation in Grand Isle, LA. In 1957, the family moved to Ventura to continue in his career.
Virginia was a lifelong conservative Republican, active in local politics. She worked as the campaign headquarters secretary for Sen. Bob Lagomarsino. She belonged to the Ventura County Assistance League. She worked at the Ventura Department of Motor Vehicles, after which she was receptionist at the Ventura Missionary Church Counseling Center. Virginia was a member of Ventura Missionary Church and Grace Lutheran Church.
She was devoted to her family, beloved by all who knew her. Her faith, which she lived with an open heart, courage, and optimism was a blessing to her family, friends and countless others she encountered throughout her life.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Gustave Henry Johnson; sister, Dorothy Marie Peeples. She is survived by her daughters, Deborah J. Stevenson (Rick), Alta Loma, CA, and Libby Anne Johnson, Ventura, CA; grandchildren, Geoffrey Craig Stevenson, Alta Loma, CA; Jeanne Elizabeth Anderson (Jonathan), Temecula, CA; Kelly Anne Johnson, Long Beach, CA; great grandsons Cameron Reese Anderson and Malcolm Craig Anderson.
Services for Virginia will be held at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura, on Friday, November 8, 2013, 12:00 noon. A private graveside service will follow.
