Tyler W. Liljekvist, 50, of Ventura was called home to heaven on Sunday April 6, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. Tyler was born on January 4th 1964 in Ojai California. He was a resident of Ventura County for his entire life. He graduated from Ventura High School in 1982. Tyler earned the rank of Eagle Scout in BSA, troop104, and was OA Lodge Chief of Topa Topa Lodge 29, Ventura County Council. Tyler joined the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department in 1985. He completed his BA in Religion in 2006 from Vanguard University. He was recognized as “Officer of the Year” from the Ojai Sheriff’s station. Tyler was assigned to the Sheriffs K-9 Unit with his partner “Henk” As a team they received many awards. Tyler was injured in the line of duty and retired medically from the VCSO as a Senior Deputy after 14 years of service. After his retirement Tyler became a Real Estate Broker and was owner and CEO of “The Financial Firm” in Ventura. Tyler also earned his Presidential Key Executive MBA from Pepperdine University in 2008. Tyler was an ordained minister and was currently serving as a Chaplain for the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.
Tyler deeply loved others, encouraging and serving everyone he met. His smile would light up a room and his laughter would fill it. He loved Jesus and made a difference wherever he would go. He loved his family and friends deeply.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years Ellen Adele Chandler Liljekvist, children Cassie 22, Cameron 17, Bailey 15; parents Gerry and Judy Liljekvist of Rosamond; grandfather JC Warren of Colorado; aunt Marsiea Warren of Colorado; brother and sister-in-law, Kurt and Sharolyn Liljekvist, nephew Josiah and niece Hannah of Colorado Springs; uncle Jim Warren of Washington, Father-in-law and mother-in-law, Hank and Fran Chandler of Oxnard CA.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday May 3, 2014, 1pm at Ventura Missionary Church, 500 High Point Drive, in Ventura.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura.
