Steve Davis entered into the presence of the Lord, peacefully, on the evening of November 6, 2012. Steve’s greatest joy in life was his faith and his family. He was surrounded by both when he passed.
Above all else, he was a man who unashamedly followed Christ. His faith was characterized by joy, servant hood, and leadership. He was a member of The City Church in Ventura, which was formerly College Heights. It was at College Heights that he made his first commitment to Christ, then met and married the love of his life, Donna.
Second to his faith came his marriage, which can be described with one word, loyalty. Steve and Donna were married for 38 years. Their commitment and loyalty to one another was an incredible example to all who knew them. Upon his death, he said he would not trade his 38 years with Donna for 100 with anyone else.
Steve was an extraordinary father to his three children, Ashley, Taylor and Cameryn. From family camping trips to building forts in the backyard, Steve loved the time he spent with his children. As they grew, he passed down his passion for leadership, business and service. He discovered a new delight when he became a Papa to his grandchildren.
Steve was a father to more than just his children. There are many he mentored whose lives will never be the same because he took them under his wing. His loss is felt deeply among those he mentored and those whose lives were completely transformed by his influence.
Steve was an entrepreneur and risk taker at heart, owning various successful small businesses in Ventura from the age of 18. Most recently he owned the Meineke Car Care Center in Ventura, but he also at one time owned Mr B’s Blinds, We-Do-Windows, CAT Candy and a bike shop. He was also a serviceman and was member of the Optimist Club for 24 years. With the East Ventura Optimist Club he held basketball tournaments and various other activities that focused on encouraging and serving youth. The East Ventura Optimist Club have now proclaimed that they will give an award called the Steve Davis Annual Basketball Scholarship in honor of Steve’s faithful service to the Optimist Club, youth and the community.
Steve was a Ventura resident from toddlerhood, but was born in Coalinga, CA on September 30, 1952. He was 60 years old.
Steve is survived by his wife, Donna; daughter and son-in-law, Ashley and Jeremy Gregg; son, Taylor Davis; daughter, Cameryn Davis; grandchildren, Nash Davis and Hannah Gregg; and brother, Brian Davis.
A memorial service will be held on November 10, 2012, 3:00 P.M. at The City Church, 6360 Telephone Road in Ventura.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3150 Loma Vista Rd., Ventura. Condolences may be left at TedMayrFuneralHome.com.
