Roberta was born August 4, 1935 in Silverton, Manitoba, Canada. She was raised in a farming family within a tight knit rural community where she gained a love and appreciation for family. It also cultivated tenacity, independence and a strong work ethic.
In 1960 she moved with her two year old daughter to Southern California where she met Warren Ranck and after a whirlwind romance they were married in 1963. They moved to Ventura and bought their first Baskin-Robbins ice cream store on Main Street. Together they continued to work and mentor many of the youth of Ventura through their Baskin-Robbins business. They had three more children and settled into community life, raising their family and becoming a vibrant part of the city of Ventura. As their children grew into adulthood, Roberta stayed an active partner and loving support to Warren in their business and also in relaxation with many trips to "Rancks Roost" at Lake Nacimiento. They also enjoyed traveling the world.
After Warren's passing in 1991, Roberta filled her time volunteering with the Kiwanis Club of Ventura and other charitable activities through her church. She enjoyed singing in their choir and was an active member for 52 years. She carried on her husband’s diehard love of sports by following their beloved Lakers and Dodgers. As her family continue to grow and the generations flourished, she still enjoyed her matriarchal the role in the family. She found time to knit, quilt, sew, stitch and tend her beautiful rose garden. You could also find her sitting in the stands at various sporting events cheering on her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, beckoned her home sweetly and peacefully on September 26 just two days shy of the 25th anniversary of Warren's passing. She is survived by her four children; their families; and her cherished extended family in the US, and Canada.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, October 8, 2016, 11:00 A.M., at College United Methodist church, 4300 Telegraph Rd, Ventura, CA. With a reception will immediately following.
Arrangements under the direction of Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura, CA.
