Robert was born in Aberdeen, Idaho and was they youngest of 4 children. He attended college at Freed-Hardeman College in Tennessee, Florida Christian College, and the University of Michigan where he earned Masters Degrees in History and Bible.
He taught high school history for several years, preaching part time, before answering the call to preach the Gospel of Christ full time, which he did faithfully for more than 50 years. He stayed active, learning to fly and earning his private pilot’s license; played the trombone in a community band in Lathrop, CA; was a member of the Lathrop City Council for 12 years, running for mayor once; enjoyed traveling; reading; and leading one-on-one Bible studies.
Robert was preceded in death by wives Bonny, married 25 years, and by Ratha, married 20 years. He is survived by his wife of 6 years, Vivian; daughters Linda Jones and Sue Haller and her husband Tony, all of Edmond, OK; sons Jim and his wife Lynn, and Gary and his wife Terry, all of Ventura, CA; 12 grand children and 2 great grand children.
Robert lived so the words of Nehemiah 7:2 would apply to him; “…because he was a man of integrity and feared God more than most people do.”
A memorial will be held at the Ventura Church of Christ on Saturday September 10th at 11:00 am.
