Peggy was born February 2, 1952 in Santa Maria, CA to James and Dene Hays. In 1953, her parents relocated from Guadalupe, CA to Ventura.
Peggy was a stay at home mom for several years before working as a para educator for the Ventura Unified School District at Mill Elementary. She then enjoyed many years as an accounts payable representative with Vreeland Cadillac in Ventura and Oxnard. Later, she took pride in being a caregiver for both her father and then her mother.
In 1990, Peggy met her husband, Tom, who was her son, James’ third grade teacher. After four years, Peggy and Tom were married and enjoyed 19 years of marriage. As Tom continued teaching at Sheridan Way Elementary, Peggy enjoyed contributing to the classroom by sending in homemade treats and bookmarks to inspire the kids to learn.
She adored spending time with her family and made each person feel special. Peggy showed her love by creating baked goods and crafts that made each person feel unique. She was not only a devoted mother to Julie, Becky and James, but she was their best friend.
Peggy was a member of the Ojai United Methodist Church for 40 years. Part of her service to the church included teaching Sunday school and helping with church functions. Peggy enjoyed all of her church friends, which she considered an extension of her own family.
Peggy was preceded in death by her father, James Hays; mother, Dene Hays and granddaughter, Amanda Webb.
She is survived by her husband, Tom Brubaker; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Robert Wiley; daughter, Becky Eaton; son, James Davis; grandchildren, Ashley, Nicholas, Abby, Jack and Brooke Wiley and Adam Webb; brother, Ron Hays; brother and sister-in-law, Scott and Shay Hays; niece, Cheri Hays and nephews, Zack and Colby Hays.
Peggy was the nicest person you could ever meet. Her heart was always in the warmest and most caring place. She will be deeply missed.
