She was born September 28, 1948, in Boulder, Colorado, and was raised in St. Francis, Kansas, the oldest of six children. After graduating from St. Francis High School and completing two years of college at Duschesne College in Omaha, Nebraska, she received a Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas State University and became a registered dietician following an internship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.
While employed at St. Francis Hospital, in Wichita, Kansas, she met her husband, Hank, during his internship year. Once they married, she followed him to Miami, Florida, for the completion of his medical training, where they also welcomed their daughter, Elizabeth. Hank’s military obligations took them to Great Lakes, Illinois, where Pam also welcomed their son, Seth, while completing her master's degree in education at Northwestern University.
In 1977, the family moved to Ventura, California, where Pam taught courses in Child Development and Nutrition at Ventura College. She found the time to complete a second master's degree and additional graduate research work in epidemiology and public health at UCLA. She finally retired from her teaching position in 2014, fully enjoying her free time while keeping just as busy learning and speaking French, planning and taking trips (both near and far) with her husband, visiting her grandchildren in San Diego, spending time with friends, enjoying gourmet meals and fine red wines, and devoting herself to Namba Arts, where she volunteered as secretary-treasurer. She always dedicated herself to her family, to her many students, to her beloved friends, and to numerous philanthropic and service organizations.
Pam is survived by her husband, her two children, two grandchildren, five siblings and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will take place at Namba Arts Studio.
In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to provide donations in her memory to Community Memorial Health Systems and its affiliated cancer center.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura. Condolences may be sent to TedMayrFuneralHome.com
