Mel was born to James Oliver Hill and Matilda Chapman Hill, at Big Sisters Hospital in Ventura on April 26, 1926 and was a lifelong Ventura resident. He attended Holy Cross School, Ventura High, Ventura College, and served two years in the U.S. Army.
After returning from the Military, Mel went to work for the U.S. Postal Service where he worked for several years, before becoming a Service Planner for Southern CA Edison. In the early 1950’s, he met his “Sweetheart” Allene. The two were married and devoted to one another for 61 years. He’s spent the last 30 years enjoying his retirement. He was an avid reader, enjoyed music and liked to travel.
Mel treasured his friends and family and looked forward to each get-together, never missing an opportunity for celebration. He will be remembered fondly for his compassionate, fun loving spirit.
