She was born on June 20, 1931, in Ventura, and graduated from Ventura High School in 1949. Nancy attended Ventura Jr. College for two years and later UCLA for one year. After returning to Ventura, she met Lester Harmon, an enlisted first class Navy Seaman who was stationed in nearby Point Mugu Naval Base. Nancy and Lester married on September 3, 1954. Lester’s squadron was transferred to Pearl Harbor in 1956. While in Hawaii the family welcomed their first son, David, in March of 1957. The Navy moved the Harmon’s again, this time to San Jose, CA where they welcomed son, Mark. Nancy and family settled back in Ventura following Lester’s retirement from the Navy and stayed in Ventura through 1973. In 1974, Nancy and Lester moved to a newly constructed house in Mussel Shoals, just north of Ventura.
Nancy was employed as a secretary and accountant for various companies in Ventura County, primarily Abex Aerospace Company. She retired from Abex in 1986. After retirement, Nancy and Lester spent a lot of time traveling. Spending nearly every summer in Keno, OR enjoying the Pacific Northwest. Nancy loved the Pacific Ocean. She spent her final years and days looking out at the dolphins and surfers from her Mussel Shoals home. Nancy was a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother, she will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester in 2001; grandson, Jake Harmon in 2012; and son, Mark Harmon in 2013.
Nancy is survived by her son, David Harmon and wife Lesly, of Keno, OR; grandson, Bryan Harmon of Ventura, CA; grandson, Matthew Harmon of Las Vegas, NV; and companion in her later years, James Harnack of Ventura, CA.
A memorial service for Nancy will be held at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura on Saturday, November 2, 2013, 2:00 P.M. with the Reverend Dan Hull officiating.
