Upon graduating from Tulsa Central High School, Murray attended Oklahoma State University where he pledged Beta Theta Pi fraternity and upon graduating he joined the Army. After the war, he was employed by Carter Oil Co. in Tulsa and had two children, Judith Ann and Robert Allen. After his divorce, Murray was transferred to Denver where he met and married Mary, a Kappa Delta from The University of Nebraska. As was typical of oil company employees, he was transferred several times before ending up in Ventura, where he retired from Exxon Co., U.S.A. after 39 years of service. He was always active in the oil industry as a member of the American Petroleum Institute, Petroleum Production Pioneers, Offshore Production/Exploration Club along with the Sons of the American Revolution and the B.P.O.E., lodge #1430 where he served as the as a Trustee for 10 years.
Upon retirement, Murray and Mary decided to travel and see the good Ole USA in their motor home. The result being that they have been to all 48 states as well as Alaska and Hawaii, meeting many wonderful people along the way. They also enjoyed the Establishment Club, a motor home group that traveled all around southern California.
Murray was preceded in death by his mother, Bess Eva Murray and his father, Herbert Louis Rickman. He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter Judy; granddaughter Jaimee; son Robert; daughter-in-law Kelly Jo; and grandson Ben.
A celebration of Murray’s life will be held on Friday, August 3, 11:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church, 1338 E. Santa Clara Street, Ventura, with a reception following at the Elks Lodge located at 2126 Knoll Drive, Ventura.
