Melba Vera Roberts, 87, passed away peacefully following a brief illness on Saturday, November 22, 2014, at her home in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was born in Louann, Arkansas on July 30, 1927, to Sam and Pearl Nalley. She married William Hunter Roberts on May 26, 1945; they had four daughters and one son.
She was a resident of Ventura for 43 years after moving from Kearney, Nebraska to raise her family. Additionally, Melba worked as a school teacher in the state of Arkansas, was employed by Arthur Murray Dance Studio and completed her career as a telephone operator with General Telephone in Oxnard, CA.
Practicing her faith in the Church of Christ, Melba was a sister of the Tucsan Chapter, No.35 Order of the Eastern Star, where she was an active member. Melba’s interests also included volunteering for the Ventura Unified School District PTA, bowling leagues in Ventura County, playing Bingo, cooking for her family and always seeking for the well-being of her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, William; she found a second long term relationship with her loving husband, Peter Rodriguez, with whom she established a home in Las Vegas, Peter preceded her in death. Melba was also preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Kay Blue; and grandchildren, Michael Langham, Harley Corcoran, and Paul Martinez.
She is survived by her daughters, Lethia Rosenberg, Jerry Langham, Sharon Roberts; and son, Clary Roberts. Melba is also survived by her grandchildren, Troy Roberts, Tracy Stewart, Tony Roberts, Tammy White, Shaun Langham, Tina Langham Hencey, Jaspar Blue, Ryan Roberts, Clarine Newman, Jamie Roberts, Ashley Roberts; 14 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura, on Friday, December 5, 2014, at 1:00 P.M. with the Reverend Jim Wells officiating along with the participation of the Channel Islands Chapter, No. 78 Order of the Eastern Star. Burial will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Rd., Ventura.
