Mary Margaret Henderson

Mary Margaret was born in Brea, California on July 10, 1916 on what was called the tank farm owned by Union Oil Company, which is where her father worked. She was the youngest of four children born to Earl Eugene Pendleton and Mary David Ross. She was raised and educated in Brea and went on to work for the draft board during World War II, where she created wonderful memories and friendships that lasted her lifetime. Later she worked as a secretary for Shaffer Tool Works in Santa Fe Springs, California.

In 1960 she married Burton F. Henderson and moved to Ventura, California where she lived the remainder of her days. Mary Margaret and Burt loved to travel the US and beyond in their motorhome. She played golf well into her 80s, and cooking and crossword puzzles were among her hobbies. She had a wonderful sense of humor and exceptional quick wit that never stopped. She and Burt developed dear friendships through church and in the neighborhood, friends that were like family to them.

She was devoted to her family and loved caring for children, known as Pretty Aunt Marg to all. In 1978 Mary Margaret and Burt adopted two grandchildren, Kristina and Bryce Moller, as their very own. The last thirty-five years have been full of the joys that only grandchildren bring; including the addition of two dogs she teased ‘mattered the most’. She met her great-grandson, Campbell Moller, the month before she died.

Mary Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Burt, two older sisters, Winifred and Gwen, and an older brother, Earl. Mary Margaret is survived by two nephews and three nieces, Burt’s two nephews, several grandnephews and grandnieces, two grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

A service of remembrance will be held at The Pierpont Inn (Anacapa Room), located at 550 Sanjon Road, Ventura, CA 93001, on Sunday, September 29, 2013, at 2:00pm with longtime friend Dick Power officiating. A reception will take place onsite shortly after the service.
