Marvin Eugene Jacobs, 73, of Ventura, died from complications of a stroke Wednesday, September 29, 2010. He was born May 2, 1937 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and had been a Ventura County resident 34 years.
Marvin had participated in a work study program at Drexel Institute of Technology, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa as a Chemical Engineer. He went on to earn a Juris Doctor Degree, Order of the Coif, with a specialty in Patent Law, from George Washington Law School, while working full time at the United States Patent Office. Licensed to practice law in Virginia, Washington, DC, Maryland, and California, Marvin moved to Orange County in 1966 to join a law firm there. He later moved his practice to Los Angeles, and then in 1979, to Ventura. He retired in 2009.
Marvin was a member of Temple Beth Torah and various professional organizations. He was known for his sharp intellect and love of gadgets, and enjoyed playing bridge, reading, watching sports – especially the UCLA Bruins – and spending time with family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Gail, and daughter, Margot, attending the University of Colorado at Boulder; sons from a previous marriage, and daughters-in-law, Todd and Katie Jacobs, of Santa Barbara, and David and Liza Jacobs, of Ventura; grandchildren, Jodie, Sarah, Matthew and Anna; sister, Joyce Weissman of New York; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Alice; and brother, Edward.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Sunday, October 3, 2010 at Temple Beth-Torah, 7620 Foothill Rd., Ventura, with Rabbi Lisa Hochberg-Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Rd., Ventura.
