Margaret “Jean” Melvin, 89, passed away in Ventura on August 30, 2013, with her daughters at her side. Jean was born and grew up in Walsall, England. She met and married an American G.I., Joe Melvin, in 1945, and she arrived aboard the Queen Mary with the first group of war brides from England in 1946. Most of her married life was spent in Astoria, OR. She moved to Port Hueneme, CA in the early 1970’s and went to work for the county where she retired as a environment planner.
Jean loved to travel and took many adventurous trips. Her favorite trip was camping in the outback of Australia.
She is survived by her daughters, Margaret Lengyel, Carol Sheker and Susan Melvin; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
